10th July 09 Energy Day
The school had a wonderful day, thinking about ways to save energy.
- They explored solar and wind power
- They ate produce from the school garden
- They had low waste lunches
- They designed fashion outfits from recycled rubbish
- They each made a pledge to help improve their environment
Congratulations to you all!

Other activities to help pupils understand about caring for their environment and reducing their energy use include
- Using an electricity monitor to record their electricity use. This has led to some interesting discussions e.g. should we give up our swimming pool to save energy or accept the extra electricity use and enable children to save their own lives by learning to swim

- providing a course of cycle training to encourage transport away from cars

- growing their own produce in the School Garden which is then used for school lunches

- having a Cooking Club which also sometimes uses their own produce

- SHARE days to encourage healthy living and looking after the environment
- designing linen bags to reduce the use of plastic bags

- recycling paper and compost waste.

In the next academic year the focus will be on saving water, so the work continues.
The school has supported
the Energy Group since its inception, and has been involved
in our 2 Energy Events. At the first, they produced a 20 minute
presentation on the energy scheme, with music played on instruments
all made with recycled materials. At the second, a lively and
thought-provoking display included exciting creative work on
environmental issues and also factual information showing how
they have achieved a Bronze and then a Silver Award as an Eco School.
