Wenhaston Energy Support Group (WESG) applied
for and received two grants: from EEDA (Eastern England
Development Agency) and SCC (Suffolk County Council). The
EEDA grant is going to the Village Hall for their new boiler
and other improvements.
Part of the SCC grant was awarded to fund a new
project to help all residents of Wenhaston with Mells to keep
warmer and pay less !
A DIY project - this was aimed at helping people who want
to put in their own insulation - either themselves or with
local labour - whether loft insulation, solid wall insulation,
draught proofing or pipe lagging. Every household with
a combined income of £40,000 or below was eligible
to apply. Households with incomes over £40,000 who
wish to be involved could benefit from the bulk buy, getting
a better price, but needed to purchase the material themselves
through WESG.
31 Wenhaston households applied to SEAL as part of the Warmer
Wenhaston initiative and the insulation materials ordered were delived to Wenhaston and collected by householders on February 7th. It was a great day, as you can see from the photos below.
If you missed the deadline, and are still interested in this
project, let us know, as we hope to repeat it later in 2009.
Residents in receipt of certain benefits or aged 70 or
over may apply for grants from various government supported
schemes which provide most of these measures free. SEAL
will be able to help access these schemes.
