PHOTO-VOLTAIC - save energy, save cash

Watch this space! The government has lost its latest appeal. You may still be able to get the higher Feed-in-Tariff rate, if you contact installers quickly.....

    Want to know about our local installers and what they can        offer you, especially if you live in the Wenhaston area? Then

  • contact us on info@wenhastongreen.org
  • go to the Energy Saving Trust for general information or phone 0800512012
  • or look at the links below

GENERAL INFORMATION

Read this article written for us by Teresa Howarth from SEAL (Suffolk Energy Action Link). Very thorough.

Couldn't get to our meeting? We have collated the basic information about the 3 local installers here.

Go to YouGen - the site has very clear information too about all aspects of PV panels.

The Energy Saving Trust has lots of information including a new publication to download called "The Buyer's Guide to Solar Electricity."

"Which" has useful advice, yet more links, and lots about other ways to save energy!

FEED-IN TARIFF INFORMATION

For information on registered feed-in tariff licensed suppliers go to Ofgem . Useful to look at this and then complete an application form prior to getting the installation. There is no grant scheme for PV panels.

There is more information about the feed-in tariff scheme from the Energy Saving Trust.

Until end of March 2012, the Feed-in generation tariff is:

43.3p per kWh generated for under 4kWp systems;
37.8p for 4-10kWp systems;
32.9p for 10-50kWp;
19p for >50kWp - 150kWp;
15p for >150kWp - 250kWp;
8.5p for >250kWp - 5MWp and stand alone installations.

More detailed information can be found about the feed-in tariff can also be found on the Ofgem site.

HELP WITH FINANCING YOUR INSTALLATION

 Thinking about how to pay for your panels? Interest Free Loans are available towards your costs - well worth checking out.

PLANNING INFORMATION

PV panels are permitted development in most instances bar listed buildings and some conservation areasbut you would be wise to contact the Planning helpdesk either by email -

planning.helpdesk@suffolkcoastal.gov.uk or by phone 01394 444403 or 444428. This will give you an informal opinion as to whether a proposal is likely to be acceptable. People may wish to forward a letter, sketch plans and photographs of the site and its context for consideration. It is also worth noting that building control approval is required (http://www.extendingyourhome.com/babergh_ipswich_suffolkcoastal/ has lots of information on this.

Even more information on this with the reasons explained quite well is in In Balance Energy.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

There are many articles about this including one from the Guardian. It was written in May 2009 but most of it is still relevant.
