Allotments

The new allotments are not  a Wenhaston Green project, but we fully support this initiative in the village.

On February 11th 2009, the allotments were allocated, and since then, the allotment holders have been working hard to produce their first crops. A very successful season was had by all. On July 16th 2010,Dr. Burgess, the advocate for Rural Communities visited Wenhaston and was very impressed by this new village project.

Their growing success led to ambitious plans. Following a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund the allotments now boast a communal tool shed which doubles up as a meeting venue, a polytunnel, a second water trough, picnic bench and table, solar-powered lighting and a wood chip path through the site.

There are still 14 plots, some shared, and Wenhaston Primary School‘s Gardening Club has joined the team and meet on a weekly basis.

The BlythWeb trophy is awarded to the allotment holder who gains the most points at the annual Wenhaston Village Show.

EARLY DAYS

A cold day for the working party, but the rabbit fence is taking shape.

What a difference a few months makes! Much was grown, harvested and eaten.
